Post-Operative Care After Nasal Sinus Surgery
- Report any excessive or bright red bleeding. May have a
small amount of oozing post-operatively. Do not blow your nose.
- If you feel you must sneeze, do this through an open mouth.
- Do not remove nasal packs from nose, unless instructed to do so
by your doctor. He will remove them on your next office visit.
- Consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist before taking Aspirin
product (Anacin, Pepto Bismol, Ecotrin, Ascriptin, Bufferin or
Aspergum, in your recovery period. They can all cause
bleeding. If you have questions regarding any other medication
you are taking, please ask.
- It is helpful to sleep with your head elevated. Pillows may be used for this.
- If you feel the air is dry in your home, especially in the winter months, you may use a cool mist vaporizer.
- Do not use nasal sprays or nasal irrigations unless instructed by your doctor.
- May want to avoid large crowds or people with known illness during your recovery.
- Resume activity slowly. Overactivity may initiate bleeding.
- Symptoms to report to your doctor immediately:
- Excessive coughing
- Excessive or bright red bleeding
- Inability to take or retain food or fluids due to nausea or vomiting
- Persistent fever over 101 degrees by mouth
- Difficulty breathing or nasal packing dislodging
