Pre-Operative Care before Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy Time: The Hospital will contact you between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. the day prior to surgery. Report to: Outpatient Department NO ASPIRIN, MOTRIN OR IBUPROFEN PRODUCTS TWO WEEKS BEFORE SURGERY. This would include arthritis medications, such as Celebrex. At times, bleeding in the postoperative period is associated with aspirin ingestion. It is absolutely necessary that the patient abstain from aspirin or products containing aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen products or blood thinner medications for two weeks before surgery. Tylenol may be taken. NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT ON DAY OF SURGERY When a patient is given an anesthetic, there is loss of reflexes in the throat and if the patient vomits, this is taken into the lungs and creates a very serious infection and reaction; therefore, it is absolutely necessary that the patient not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to surgery. IMPORTANT NOTICE If your insurance company requests pre-certification for CT scans, MRI’s or surgeries, please contact your insurance carrier as it is your responsibility to do any pre-certification. If your insurance company requests any additional information, please direct them to call our office and we will be happy to assist them for your benefit. PATIENTS WITH EAR TUBES The patient should be checked by Dr. Bowen or Dr. Keller every four months, even if he or she is not having any trouble. EAR PLUGS Patients with ear tubes should wear earplugs to keep water out of the ears while bathing or showering. We recommend wearing earplugs when swimming as well. |
